City Tips
- Be Creative – City Living sometimes means being creative with small spaces; are you creative? Here is our best advice
- Rethink a Bathroom – Redesigning a small bathroom might be difficult, but it can be done. Try installing a pedestal sink to add space to the bathroom. The sleek lines and openness will give the illusion of spaciousness.
Furnishing a Bedroom – Keep the room in perspective. Only add the furniture and fixtures that the room needs. After you take care of the essentials, consider adding extras; do not overwhelm the room. Bedroom essentials include the bed, dresser and vanity or wall mirror. Buy lamps in pairs, if you like lamps to light up your rooms. Matching candlesticks are also an option, taking up less space and adding sophistication, but be mindful of the live flame and safety measures associatedbeter.- Reenergize Space with Color and Mirrors – Color is important. To make a small room appear larger, paint the walls white. If possible, find one object to be your focal point, such as a favorite picture, and decorate the room around it. Matching curtains and bedspreads can be eloquent, but they can also be tacky.
- Rediscover Simplicity – A small porch is the perfect place to rediscover simplicity. Clean the room from top to bottom, add a shade of color (white, or a pastel color of your choice). Wicker rocking chairs with cushions will give a feel of comfort, and add geraniums (or another flower of your choice) in pots. For a finishing touch, add a throw rug with some of the same colors used throughout.
- Too Much Bulk – You may not plan to live in a condo forever, so don’t buy big furniture as if you were moving into a 3 bedroom house. Choose your stuff wisely; there are bargains to be had, especially on small condo furnishings.
